Dungeon Crawler Carl Is Breaking Out: Peacock TV Series, Princess Donut & Why BookTok Is Watching

Quick answer: Dungeon Crawler Carl is having a fresh discovery moment as Matt Dinniman's bestselling LitRPG series expands beyond the books. Peacock has ordered a live-action TV adaptation, Chris Yost is writing and executive producing, and audiobook star Jeff Hays is set to voice Princess Donut. No premiere date has been announced, so any date circulating online should be treated as speculation.

Why is Dungeon Crawler Carl trending now?

The breakout keyword file supplied for this week's US BookTok research shows “dungeon crawler carl” up 30%. That search lift arrives after a packed 2026: Book 8, A Parade of Horribles, released in May, the Peacock adaptation moved forward, and the franchise has expanded through webtoon, graphic-novel and tabletop formats.

Is Dungeon Crawler Carl becoming a TV show?

Yes. Peacock officially says the bestselling science-fantasy series is being adapted as a live-action television series. Chris Yost is attached as writer and executive producer, with Seth MacFarlane's Fuzzy Door and Universal Global Television producing.

Who is playing Princess Donut?

Jeff Hays, the voice closely associated with Princess Donut in the audiobooks, has been announced for Donut in the TV adaptation. Other major casting and a premiere date have not been officially confirmed.

What is Dungeon Crawler Carl actually about?

The story follows Carl and his ex-girlfriend's prize-winning cat, Princess Donut, after Earth is transformed into a deadly alien-run dungeon that doubles as an intergalactic reality show. The result mixes LitRPG progression, science fiction, absurd comedy and increasingly large political stakes.

How many Dungeon Crawler Carl books are out?

Penguin Random House currently lists eight main novels, with A Parade of Horribles as Book 8. New readers should begin with Dungeon Crawler Carl, not jump to the newest volume because the story is continuous.

Is this another BookTok book-to-screen wave?

It fits a wider adaptation cycle. Readers are increasingly searching for the source material before a show arrives. We are tracking that same behavior in our The Love Hypothesis adaptation update, although Dungeon Crawler Carl is much earlier in the production timeline.

What is confirmed vs still unknown?

Confirmed: Peacock live-action adaptation; Chris Yost writing/EP; Fuzzy Door and Universal Global Television producing; Jeff Hays as Princess Donut.
