Rhysand’s Powers: Demonstrated Abilities Versus “Unlimited” Claims
Spoiler boundary: A Court of Wings and Ruin and A Court of Silver Flames openings; House of Flame and Shadow opening crossover spoilers.
Direct answer: Rhysand’s power is shown through particular actions, not a canon promise that he can solve every problem. These opening scenes establish mental communication and controlled magical displays; the HOFAS encounter also uses a spelled object to bridge a language barrier. Separate an ability the text demonstrates from an inference about its range, cost or reliability. “Very powerful” is not the same statement as “unlimited and all-knowing.”
Mental communication is a demonstrated function
Early ACOWAR references communication through the mating bond, and Silver Flames shows Rhys speaking into Cassian’s mind. Both are specific interactions with specific recipients. They do not prove that every thought in every mind is permanently accessible to him. A careful comparison asks who is communicating, through what connection, and whether anyone is resisting or consenting.
A language solution does not make him omniscient
HOFAS’s opening encounter uses a spelled object while Bryce and her hosts negotiate a language difference. That is a useful example of a practical magical tool operating in a tense situation. It does not automatically settle everything about another world, its history or Bryce’s intentions. The information gained and the conclusions drawn from it still need to be distinguished.
Do not turn a dramatic entrance into a measurement
Shadows, stars and an intimidating presence are described in the encounter, but visual intensity is not a unit of magical capacity. Our reading framework separates effects, information and judgment: what he can do in the scene; what he learns; and what decision follows. The same distinction helps an ACOTAR reread avoid treating authority, attractiveness and power as one interchangeable trait.
